In Hinduism, Kuwera (Dewanagari: कुबेर; IAST: Kuvera) is the leading deity of the Yaksas or Giants. Even so, he was more special and foremost among his people. He has the title "treasurer of the Gods", so he is also called the God of Wealth. Kuwera is the son of a powerful sage named Wisrawa. He is one father with Ravana, but another mother. He became king in Alengka, replacing Malyawan, but later his power was seized by Rahwana. Not feeling he could beat Ravana, Kuwera reluctantly gave up the throne.
